Halloween is here and so is the ultimate battle between Halloween candy. From Starbursts to Swedish Fish and Skittles to Tootsie Rolls, candy is truly what Halloween is all about.
Going out and knocking on doors is fun and all, but the real fun comes down to when you and your friends dump all the candy you got on the floor and start trading.
The question, though, is what candy gets traded the most? More importantly, what candy are you most unwilling to give up?
First, we have to define our terms. Is chocolate considered a candy? To answer these questions, we surveyed students here at FHHS at random.
Sophomore Diana Perschke says yes. “Chocolate is not candy; it is chocolate. Chocolate with stuff is under the umbrella of candy.”
However, an anonymous student strongly disagrees. “Chocolates aren’t candy. Chocolates are chocolate.”
Another anonymous student responded, “Chocolate is not a candy because (I’m a Colombian so I know) it can be made raw [without] sugar and is not always a sweet.”
Both sides of the argument give valid statements, but, in the end, the majority of students do consider chocolate to be candy, with the precise numbers of 84.3% of poll respondents choosing “yes” and 15.7% who said “no.”

Now, since the people of FHHS have established that chocolate is, in fact, a candy, we have to figure out what the worst Halloween candy is.
Sophomore Isabella Tkachova believes that Snickers are the worst because “[they] get sickening after the second bite.”
On the other hand, Kriti Persaud, a senior, believes that Snickers are the best. “The chocolate and peanut combination is the best combination and it has caramel so it basically has everything. #snickers4life.”
The pressure is real, but there is a final verdict: candy corn was voted, by far, as the worst Halloween candy.
Twizzlers came in second place and Tootsie Rolls and Butterfingers tied for third.
The best candy? Two anonymous students in the cafeteria believe KitKats are the best, while their friend argued that Smarties are.
The conflict was clear: a crunchy chocolate candy vs. sweet fruit-colored tablets.
AP of Mathematics Mr. Jones said that his favorite chocolate Halloween candy would be Twix. He added that he was recently introduced to the Nerds Gummy Clusters and “they have changed [his] life.”
KitKats vs. Smarties vs. Twix: Who would win???
Fun Facts about Candy:
- Every day, 64 million Tootsie Rolls are made (meaning approximately 740 Tootsie Rolls are created per second!), according to mentalfloss.com.
- Believe it or not, a dentist invented cotton candy. In 1897, William Morrison partnered with John C. Wharton, a candy maker from Nashville, to create a machine that turned sugar into cotton-like strands. They called the product “Fairy Floss,” which is very different from the name it has today.
- Did you know that candies were not what children were always given on Halloween? Originally, coins, fruits, toys, and nuts were given, but the sweet switch occurred in the late 1950s due to the belief that candies were safer (since most candies are pre-wrapped).
So, the winner for the best Halloween candy of 2025, according to FHHS students and staff, is… TWIX!
“…[T]he savory caramel and chocolate w[ith] a crunch taste[s] so good at once, the chocolate is literally melting as [yo]u eat it,” one anonymous survey response said.

Twix is owned by Mars, Incorporated, one of the largest private US companies and a major contributor to the food and pet care industries. The corporation reported a revenue of over $50 billion in 2024, and it makes sense. Not only does the company own Twix, but it also owns other well-known snacks, such as Skittles, Snickers, Life Savers, Tru Fru, and KIND.
The runners-up in this candy contest, Sour Patch and KitKats, were extremely close, but the voice of FHHS students was loud and clear. Twix is, as one anonymous respondent put plain and simple, the candy bar with a “perfect mix of everything.”
