Valentine’s Day is that one day when everyone suddenly cares who has a boyfriend or girlfriend. At FHHS, Valentine’s Day comes with its own form of entertainment, thanks to the Red Cross Club. Roses are distributed to students that send them to friends.
For the person receiving the rose, it’s a main character moment. But for everyone else, perhaps this is more of a sad moment. If you’re single, it can feel weird. But being single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean being lonely. So, what are the things you can do as a single person on Valentine’s Day?
Treat it like a friendship holiday.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be romantic. Grab your friends, buy each other chocolate and write ridiculous cards. Bonus points if you “help” a friend finish the chocolate they got because they’re “too full.”
Send a rose, just for the plot.
Who says roses have to be romantic? Send one to your best friend. Send one anonymously and let them spend the entire day trying to figure it out.
Be your own Valentine.
Wear something that makes you feel good, grab your favorite drink before school or food. Romantic energy is great and you can romanticize your own day.
If you’re in a talking stage, I beg anyone to not be nonchalant and please just ask the girl out, buy her chocolates and ask her to be your valentine. I promise this will not make you seem “down bad” or uncool.
Valentine’s Day is less about relationship status and more about connection, friends, classmates and even small moments of kindness. So whether you received a surprise rose, send one or just enjoy the atmosphere, remember that this holiday is what you make of it.
