Senior Frida Ziu has officially taken the title as Student Government President of FHHS for the 2024-2025 school year. She defeated Nick Wadia, Senior Appointee. With the nationwide election happening in just a few days, educating oneself on our local, even school community elections are a great start. Although the school’s election is a big event here at Hills, not many know what follows.
For those unaware, Student Government at FHHS is an organization of students that represent the voices of the school in the form of responsibility and leadership skills. Nick shares, “They seek to give back to the school community in the form of leadership and through some sacrifice, such as the Blood Drive.”
Frida is described as a student with a bright spirit that allows a positive environment for others. She prioritizes and is devoted to schoolwork. She began her journey with Student Government during her sophomore year, but took a break last year to commit to the school’s Science Olympiad. She returned her senior year and is now the school’s president.
Ms. Kelly, Coordinator of Student Activities, shares her feelings about Frida. “She’s very encouraging of other students to contribute and help them complete their thought process and come up with their ideas. It’s not like a dominant leadership, but rather an environment where it’s a lot of team building and team working.”
As Frida wanted to experience something she hadn’t before in middle school, she joined the school’s Spirit Club, a club for Student Government volunteers. The club provided an opportunity for Frida to grow a bond with Ms. Kelly. Frida states, “She encouraged me to apply for the position of secretary my sophomore year and I was able to win.”
She’s made a lot of friends along the way, and she shares that she knew that she could be someone that someone can easily talk to. Therefore, she was able to understand a lot of people’s thoughts and opinions, and with that, she came up with the idea to run for president.
Her agenda for this school year is entertainment-focused. She wants to wisely use social media to publicize the school. By connecting the students to Student Government, students can make the best out of their high school years. She strongly believes that high school is a great experience where you can make the greatest memories.
Therefore, she will work on publicizing events that are occurring and listening to what the students of FHHS want. For example, in preparation of this week’s Spirit Week, members of the Student Government posted polls on their social media page, polling students for ideas. Many students wanted “Color Day,” a day when students wear colors differentiated by their grades.
And now, we have Color Day scheduled for October 28.
As Student Government President, Frida desires for teamwork within the organization. Furthermore, she expects all to have good communication so that they can be an individual who people can easily reach out to.
Frida states, “My main hope is that we are able to create a Student Government where everyone is connected to each other in some way and has comradery among each other.”
