Every school has its unsung heroes: those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that a school staff has everything they need to teach a lesson, construct a bulletin board, or photocopy class sets of exams.
At Forest Hills High School, one such hero is Marc Berman, a dedicated school aide whose mission goes beyond the classroom. Marc is responsible for delivering supplies to students, teachers, secretaries, and administration, ensuring that no one goes without the materials they need to thrive. He walks with speed, delivering to those in need.
He may even be the first face you see when entering the school first period. Marc has been a part of our school community for about four years and is always prepared to lend a helping hand. Yes, his main role is to deliver and organize supplies, but at any time those tasks can switch, depending on the needs of the building. “Depends on the day. The day changes,” Marc stated.
Whether he’s replenishing classroom materials or just being a listening ear for students, he is that guy.
“I was told by a student last year that I give off ‘cool uncle vibes,’” he shared. Beyond delivering supplies, Marc takes the time to connect with students. As he is spotted all around the building throughout the day, students often stop Marc to comment on one of his funky Marvel t-shirts or even ask him for advice. “The best part of my day sometimes is when students show me their report card or something like that since I don’t interact with students directly. It warms my heart,” he said.
Fellow school aides appreciate his efforts. “He is always available. He has everything ready for us. He has the supplies,” shared Waleska Mendez, school aide.
Reliability is a common characteristic that staff mentioned about Marc. Not only does he deliver the goods, but he’s punctual. Don’t have one in stock? He’ll find you an alternative or order a new one. “Something as silly as an expo marker, he will deliver to you,” Mr. Rosenblatt, AP of Organization shared. Whatever anyone needs, Marc will deliver.
“He is always in the school. He would be here 24/7, if he could. He stops by and approaches everyone. He welcomes everyone,” Waleska said.
Marc may not stand in front of a classroom of students, but his work is essential to the success of students and staff alike. His unwavering dedication to making sure everyone has what they need to succeed makes him essential to the daily functioning of FHHS.
